Gregory James Aziz is the chief executive officer of National Steel Car. He also serves as the company chairman and president. Gregory Aziz, also known as Greg Aziz, was born on April 30, 1949 in London, Ontario. National Steel Car is based in Hamilton, Ontario, and is one of the world’s prominent freight car engineering companies.
Greg Aziz studied at University of Western Ontario where majored in economics. Together with his wife, Greg also sponsors the most prominent agricultural fair in Canada – Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
His career started in 1971 when he joined wholesale food family business. The company expanded to become an importer of fresh foods in Europe and both Central and South America in a span of 16 years.
Between late 1980’s and early 1990s’ in New York, James Aziz was able to work on several investment banking opportunities. In 1994, he organized the purchase of National Steel Car from Dofasco. His aim is to transform the firm into one of the leading railroad freight car manufacturer.
In his pursuit, James Aziz was then able to use the company’s strongest business features including strong engineering capabilities, capital investment, and a strong team to scale its growth and expansion. By 1999, the company had expanded to manufacturing about 12,000 cars from approximately 3,500 annually and had grown from about 600 to practically 3,000 employees.
Currently, Greg continues to lead the company as the CEO. His leadership and management abilities can only take the company to higher heights.
National Steel Car
Today, the National Steel Car is ISO 9001:2008 certified and continues to be North America’s sole railroad freight car manufacturing and engineering company. Sponsored by the Hamilton Opera, Theater Aquarius, Salvation Army, United Way, and other resident charities, the company is devoted to the Hamilton Society. The National Steel Car offers jobs to thousands of employees. It also holds an annual Christmas party for both past and present employees together with their entire families.
Since 1996, the Company has been constantly awarded the TTX SECO accolade. With more than 100 years of high-tech engineering and manufacturing, National Steel Car remains to be North America’s largest rail manufacturer.
